Sourcegraph is a fantastic tool that can help you take your engineering work to the next level. With its robust analysis and visualization capabilities, Sourcegraph can help you understand your codebase in a way that’s difficult or impossible to do otherwise. In this blog post, we’ll look at some of the new features and enhancements available in Sourcegraph Series 2.6b, which was released earlier this year. We’ll explore ways that Sourcegraph can help you improve your engineering process and some of the challenges you may face when using it.
What’s new in Sourcegraph Series 2.6b?
In this release, we’ve added support for the Go language and several other enhancements and changes.
For Go developers, we’ve added a new “Go to Definition” feature that allows you to quickly go to the definition of a struct, function or type in your code. You can find this option under the “Code Navigation” menu in the Sourcegraph editor.
We’ve also made some improvements to our Snippets feature, which lets you easily create code snippets that you can use throughout your codebase. You can now add multiple snippets at once and use them with Quick Links in the editor toolbar. We’ve also added support for Git branch references in snippets, so you can easily reference different commits within a snippet.
In addition to these features, we’ve made various other improvements and bug fixes in this release. For more information on all of the new features and enhancements in this release, read our blog post here: blog.sourcegraph.com/series-2-6b/

How does this impact Sourcegraph users?
The Sourcegraph Series b blog post dives into the new features and enhancements in the latest version of Sourcegraph, which includes updates to our search and navigation capabilities.
One of the most significant changes is the overhaul of our search functionality. The new indexing algorithm makes finding files and projects much faster and more accurate. We’ve also added support for fuzzy matching, so you can more easily find files that match a specific keyword or phrase.
In addition to search, we’ve made several other improvements to our interface:
- The status bar now provides information about how long it will take to load a file or project, as well as an estimate of how much memory it will consume.
- We’ve rebuilt the sidebar so that it’s more convenient to navigate and use, with quick links to your profiles, repositories, issues, and comments.
- Sourcegraph now supports drag and drop, so you can quickly move files between folders.
How to Use the Sourcegraph Explorer
Here we will explore the new Sourcegraph Series feature – the enhancements and new features in Sourcegraph 4.0.
The Sourcegraph Series is a tool that lets you explore all the source code changes made to a specific project over time. You can easily browse all commits, branch names, files changed, and lines changed in each commit. It is helpful to know why they made a particular modification or when you found a fault.
The enhancements in Sourcegraph 4.0 include the following:
- Improved navigation and search across all series data
- Quick access to individual commits from the list of files and branches in series data.
- Support for inline edits and additions in series data, which makes it easier to capture your thoughts on code changes as you work on them
- Support for viewing series data in a variety of different formats, including PDF, Markdown, and HTML
To explore new features in Sourcegraph 4.0, click on the “Explore” button in the toolbar at the top of the window. It will open the Sourcegraph Series window.
The Series window shows the source code changes made to a project over time. The left side of the window shows all commits – this is where you can browse through all the changes made to a project. To view details about a specific commit, click on it.
The Series window’s right side shows all files you changed in that commit. You can click on any file to view its details. In that file, for example, you can see which altered lines and branches were affected.
You can also use the search bar at the top of the Series window to find specific files or commits. Once you’ve found what you’re looking for, you can quickly edit or add comments to those files using inline editing mode.
If you want to explore a project’s history further back than the current version (or if you want to view a different version of a project), you can use the “History” tab in the Series window. This tab shows all commits you made to the project since you last saved it.
Finally, you can view a project’s source code in different formats using the “Format” tab. You can view source code as HTML, PDF, or Markdown.
We hope you find the Sourcegraph Series feature helpful as you work on your projects. If you have any questions or feedback about the Series feature, please let us know at support@sourcegraph.com.
