What is the difference between cables and wires?
Before we talk about splicing wires, it is important to reinforce the difference between cables and electrical wires.
Although these two components are not the same thing, initially, both have the same function: to conduct electric current.
Following the definition of NBR NM 280: 2011, focused on electrical conductors, the electrical wire is formed by only one wire and a thick filament, being more rigid.

What is wire or cable splicing?
Generally speaking, it is the union of the ends of two conductors. This type of measurement must be carried out in order to ensure adequate mechanical resistance and perfect, risk-free electrical contact.
In this case, the splices have some functions: extending energy conductors or reconnecting them after breakages and making derivations in a main network of wires, for example.
Types of electrical conductor splices
